Workshop for Toddlers & Parents
Audience: Children ages three to five and parents
Length: 30-45 minutes
Audience size: 20 toddlers (60 people max, with parents) Location: Any
Dr. Senning reads her new book, Emily’s Magic Words (HarperCollins Children, October, 2007). Dr. Senning will also lead activities, including using flashcards to learn and practice one magic word in American Sign Language. A discussion with parents will follow on the joys and challenges of introducing manners to very young children, including a question and answer session.
A Talk for Parents
Audience: Parenting groups, book stores, community groups, service organizations, other
Length: 1–1½ hour
Audience size: 10-100
Location: Any
Dr. Senning begins the event with a discussion about etiquette and its importance as a set of skills that help children build relationships and self confidence in all aspects of life. Dr. Senning talks about the interplay between the fundamental principles of etiquette (consideration, respect and honesty) and the manners that help us all succeed. She will also discuss when certain manners can be introduced and the most effective ways of teaching manners to toddlers.
