Fashion Flash!

Peter Post, representing JC Penney’s exclusive line of nick(it) menswear created by Nicholas Graham, kicks off Fashion Week with politeness boot camp training for 30 Random Acts of Politeness team members.

To launch his line of nick(it) menswear – “Traditionally Twisted Clothing with an English Accent” – Graham illustrated the classic British belief that looking good is only half the equation, doing well is the other half. “Random Acts of Politeness extends the British sensibility of the nick(it) collection beyond how people look, but to how they act as well,” said Graham. Thirty gentlemen sporting JC Penney’s nick(it) suits, bowler hats and British brollies were charged with showering strangers on the streets of New York City with kindness.

Graham and Post kicked off Fashion Week for the cameras at the entrance to the Olympus Pavilion at the top of the steps of Bryant Park on 6th Avenue. Post instructed the nick(it) guys on the art of tipping one’s hat, addressing strangers as ‘Sir,’ ‘Madam’ or ‘Miss’ and saying ‘Please,’ ‘Thank you,’ ‘You’re welcome,’ ‘May I’ and ‘Excuse me.’  While cameras clicked, the gents chanted the magic mantras.

“Politeness is the one fashion accessory that is never out of style, and it is the one that you just cannot buy, “says Post. “Americans want more politeness in everyday life to take the tension out of our overbooked schedules and anonymous encounters. The simple ‘magic words’ of politeness and small considerate acts can go far to improve our social landscape everyday. As the oldest institution studying and promoting etiquette in America, we believe the Random Acts of Politeness. campaign made a perfect fit for Emily Post.”

Nicholas Graham is best known as the designer whose “little” underwear company Joe Boxer became one of America’s hottest lifestyle brands. nick(it) is the latest brand to emerge from Graham’s San Francisco-based 100 Minute Company where he delves into everything from fashion, to music, to films, to books and all that comes in between.
